Sen. Cornyn Meets With Dallas Medical Leaders To Discuss Health Care Reform

Continues health care outreach tour, learns firsthand about Project Access Dallas

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, and prominent medical leaders from Dallas met today to discuss pending health care reform legislation and efforts underway to provide affordable care to Dallas' uninsured and medically underserved individuals through Project Access Dallas (PAD). Sen. Cornyn heard from leaders in the Dallas medical community about their concerns with the Democrats' plans for a Washington takeover of the health care system.

"Project Access Dallas has been diligently serving area residents since 2002. Countless volunteers dedicate their time and talent each and every day. This important program would not be possible without the volunteer network of physicians who serve as the primary health care provider for patients. Today I heard firsthand about their community-driven solution to serving the health care needs of low-income patients in Dallas.

"We also discussed several pending proposals in the U.S. Senate to overhaul our nation's health care system, which would directly impact their ability to deliver care. Skyrocketing health care costs are the number one concern of many families and small businesses, but quickly pushing through $1 trillion in new spending for a Washington health care takeover is not the answer. We need to take the time to get health care reform right. That starts with making coverage more affordable so all Texans can have access to quality health care."
