Murphy Statement on Withdrawal of U.S. Combat Troops From Iraqi Cities, Turning Over Security to Iraqis

Congressman Chris Murphy released the following statement on the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraqi cities and the turnover of security to the Iraqis.

"Today marks a critical step in responsibly ending our day-to-day security mission in Iraq and turning over control of the country to the Iraqi people. As this transition moves forward, we will still play a role in training the Iraqis to secure their nation and their people. But President Obama is keeping his promise to get our troops out of Iraq safely by a date certain.

"Today is also an opportunity to honor those who have served their country and their families for making such a sacrifice over the last several years. They have accomplished every military objective they were given. They've gone above and beyond their commitment and have bravely and honorably fought on a battlefield unlike we've ever seen before."
