McCollum Statement on the American Clean Energy and Security Act

On the eve of the vote by the U.S. House of Representatives on the American Clean Energy and Security Act (H.R. 2454), a clean energy jobs plan that will unleash private sector investment in jobs and new technologies, move America toward energy independence, and reduce the pollution that is causing catastrophic climate change, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) released the following statement:

The American Clean Energy and Security Act is the most important piece of energy legislation ever considered by Congress and it has my strong support. America can no longer delay in securing our energy independence. Furthermore, American leadership is vital to a "green" global economy, creating millions of new jobs here at home, and keeping our planet healthy. The future of every American family is at stake in this legislation and it costs less than 50 cents per day per household. Securing America's future is worth 50 cents a day.

There are opponents of a clean energy future who continue to have their heads in the sand. They call global warming a "hoax,' a fringe argument made even today on the House floor. These opponents want to maintain our country's addiction to foreign oil, protect big oil's profits, and keep us on an unsustainable path that is destroying our planet. I completely reject the denial, addiction and dependence of the champions of failed energy policies of the past.

The time for action is now. Every company and family has the opportunity to make America more secure and more successful for generations to come. The American Clean Energy and Security Act is a historic step toward towards this goal and it has my full support.
