Van Hollen Supports Key Investments In Law Enforcement, American Innovation, Global Climate Change Research

Today, Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement on House passage of the FY 2010 Commerce-Justice-Science Appropriations Bill:

"At its core, the Commerce-Justice-Science Appropriations Bill invests in law enforcement, keeps our communities safe, improves our economy, and ensures that our research and development efforts are thriving. And it does so in a fiscally responsible manner by scrutinizing each of the bill's existing programs, eliminating 11 of them and trimming 13 others.

"I am particularly pleased that this appropriations bill provides $3.5 million in public safety improvements for Montgomery and Prince George's counties, including $2.7 million for an anti-gang task force and gang prevention activities. Funds are also made available to continue our science-based approach to restoring the health of America's largest estuary, the Chesapeake Bay.

"I am proud to join my colleagues in supporting this legislation."
