Van Hollen Statement On May Job Loss Numbers

Statement

Date: June 5, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Assistant to the Speaker, issued the following statement on May's job loss numbers from the Department of Labor:

"Today's unemployment numbers are an important reminder that, while we are seeing signs of progress, there is still much work to be done. Getting out of this economic ditch will take time and won't happen overnight. What is clear is doing nothing or recycling the policies that got us into this mess, as some critics would like us to do, is not a solution. Congress and President Obama are working every day to create and save American jobs, get workers back on their feet, and provide tax relief to middle class families. Over the next few months, we will take steps to reform health care and create millions of new clean energy jobs. These are bold initiatives that the American people overwhelmingly supported in November. I hope John Boehner and the GOP leadership will abandon their "Just say no" strategy and work with us, because Democrats, Independents and Republicans across the country want America to succeed, not fail."
