Murphy Statement On Election Results In Lebanon

Congressman Chris Murphy released the following statement on the election results in Lebanon.

"I congratulate the people of Lebanon on the completion of their 2009 parliamentary elections. I know that Connecticut's residents of Lebanese descent were watching this election with great interest, and I am glad to share with them my congratulations and best wishes for Lebanon's future.

"These elections and their uncontested results prove the resiliency of Lebanon's democratic institutions, despite many challenges. The election process was carried out peacefully, following a spirited dialogue and a high turnout that demonstrated the commitment of the Lebanese people to their country and to the democratic process.

"Lebanon's sovereignty, independence, and legitimate institutions are important to the United States and I look forward to continuing to support the growth of Lebanon's democratic institutions."
