HASC Seapower Subcommittee Passes Courtney Amendment Supporting Preservation Of NR-1 Submarine

An amendment introduced today by Congressman Joe Courtney to expressing Congress's support for the preservation of the historic research submarine, NR-1, was passed by the Seapower and Expeditionary Forces Subcommittee during its markup of the Fiscal Year 2010 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

"This is an important step in the process of bringing as much of this innovative and historic research submarine home where it was built and where it belongs," stated Courtney. "Once this becomes law, Congress will be on the record in support of our local initiative and in support of providing NR-1 its rightful place in history."

The amendment offers Congress's support of Representative Joe Courtney's effort to preserve as much of the submarine as possible in Groton, and urges the Navy to move as expeditiously as possible to ensure its transfer.

Congressman Joe Courtney is a member of the House Armed Services Committee.
