Cassidy: President Should Focus On Getting Health Care Reform Right, Not Getting It Right Now

Today, amid new reports that Democrats are bent on ramming a massive health care overhaul through Congress in only a matter of weeks, Congressman Bill Cassidy (R-LA), a physician and medical professor, made the following statement:

"Americans deserve a health care reform package focused on the needs of patients, not political deadlines. Instead of fixating on an August deadline - the fierce urgency of now, as he says - the President should be focused on the fierce urgency of getting it right."

"In the mad rush to pass the Stimulus, the Administration traded effectiveness for expediency, creating a bill that the Congressional Budget Office says will actually harm the economy in ten years. With patients' lives on the line, we cannot afford another round of urgent salesmanship that ends up hurting people in a few years from now."

"Only through careful consideration for the needs of patients can we ensure that all Americans have access to the doctors, treatments, and medicines they need when they need them and at a price they can afford."
