Rep. Foster Holds Auto Roundtable With 14th District Auto Dealers

Meets with GM and Chrysler Dealers from North Aurora, St. Charles, and Batavia

As part of his continued efforts to listen to his constituents and to try to prevent potential job losses, Rep. Bill Foster (IL-14) held a roundtable today with 14th District auto dealers to discuss the state of the auto industry and its effect locally.

"As we attempt to save jobs at home, it is essential that we listen to local businesses who know firsthand the state of the auto industry," said Foster. "I am submitting statements from our area auto dealers into the Congressional Record so that I can bring their stories and experiences to Washington."

Representatives from Avenue Chevrolet in Batavia, Westside Dodge in North Aurora, Richard Chrysler Jeep in St. Charles and the Chicago Automobile Trade Association joined Foster in the discussion.

The auto dealers who provided testimony for Foster will have their comments entered into the Congressional Record when he returns to Washington, D.C. next week.

The roundtable is the latest effort by Foster to work for solutions that will help the auto industry. Earlier this month, Foster joined a bipartisan coalition in an effort to save local auto dealership jobs. The group sent a letter to the U.S. Treasury's Auto Task Force, headed by Mr. Steven Rattner, to request that the Task Force reconsider the forced closure of dealerships across the country in favor of a more flexible and transparent process that would allow for market forces to consolidate dealerships.

"As a businessman, I know how important small business leaders like our auto dealers are to the economic health of our country and the 14th District," Rep. Foster said. "I am listening to them and I am working on their behalf as we try to find solutions that will allow them to maintain their businesses and continue to employ area workers."
