Sen. Cornyn: White House Should Come Clean On True Cost To Taxpayer For Washington Takeover Of Health Care

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, today issued the following statement regarding the White House's newly released report on the economic impact of health care reform:

"Today's report is yet another attempt by the White House to create a façade of fiscal responsibility and transparency. What we as taxpayers need to question is not what is in this report, but what isn't. While the report correctly diagnoses the cost problem in our health care system, it fails to explore the economic impact that President Obama's full-scale Washington takeover of our nation's health care system will have on taxpayers. This from the President who promised transparency would be a touchstone of his presidency.

"This country is already saddled with debt and entitlement obligations, but the Administration wants to spend another $1.5 trillion on new health care entitlements. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that impact will be new taxes or more debt. The fact is we don't need to-and we can't afford to-spend more money on government program expansions. What we need are real solutions-not red herring reports-to get higher value from the dollars we are already spending."
