Senator Deeds' Statement On The 65th Anniversary Of D-Day

Today, Senator Creigh Deeds released the following statement on the 65th anniversary of D-Day:

"On this 65th anniversary of D-Day, we must not forget the bravery of our veterans and the thousands of servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice on June 6, 1944."

"As Virginians, we especially remember the great sacrifice of so many families from Bedford, Virginia -- the community that lost more servicemen per capita on D-Day than any other community in the United States.

"Twenty-two men from Bedford lost their lives at Omaha Beach, and their bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Our commonwealth lost the last-surviving member of the Bedford division -- Ray Nance -- this past April. I was touched when I heard about Mr. Nance's efforts to ensure that his fallen comrades were honored and his memory is in my heart on this day."

"We must remember all of our brave veterans on the anniversary of this day that changed the course of history. And today, I join President Obama in thanking every veteran for their service to our country."
