Smith Votes Against Unrestrained Budget

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) today voted against the $3.6 trillion budget conference report - expressing concerns the budget calls for huge increases in spending, taxes, deficits, and debt. The budget resolution passed along party lines 233 to 193, similar to earlier votes.

"This budget spends too much, taxes too much, and borrows too much from future generations. It produces unprecedented levels of spending and deficits, and nearly triples our nation's debt to $17.3 trillion over the next ten years. This is not what the American taxpayers deserve.

"There are better solutions to get our economy moving - solutions which have bipartisan support. It is my hope the majority will be open to new ideas and move forward on numerous proposals to help small businesses, agricultural producers, and make it easier for Nebraskans to save for the future again," Smith said.
