Congresswoman Gwen Moore today released the following statement on the passage of H.Con.Res. 111, Recognizing the 61st anniversary of the independence of the State of Israel:
"I am proud to join my colleagues today in recognizing the 61st of the State of Israel's independence. The State of Israel is one of the United States' strongest allies and its endurance is a testament to the ideals of freedom and democracy. Both the U.S. and Israel share the common goals of peace, freedom, security, and prosperity for their citizens and for the region.
"Israel is a true and steadfast U.S. friend and ally. My support for Israel remains strong and the U.S. House of Representative's reaffirmation of its continuing support today demonstrates the strength of support for Israel on both sides of the aisle.
"We must continue to strongly support Israel's right to exist and its security by bringing life to the peace process between Israel and its neighbors. Passage of this important resolution today must be accompanied by support of sustained diplomacy on the ground by the new Administration and Special Envoy Mitchell, so we can maximize every effort for dialogue and negotiations and concrete progress."
