Senator Creigh Deeds' Statement on Governor Kaine's Unemployment Benefit Proposal

Senator Creigh Deeds, a Democratic candidate for governor, released the following statement on Governor Kaine's unemployment benefit proposal for Virginia's laid-off workers:

"Virginians are hurting right now. Our unemployment rate has doubled in the past year and our entire state has been hit by this economic crisis. Many hard-working Virginians are being laid-off and left without health care. The stakes have never been higher and that's why I didn't walk away from the tough decisions. I will proudly stand with Governor Kaine during the veto session to help Virginia's laid-off workers get back on their feet during this economic crisis. We need to look beyond party lines and do what's right for Virginians. I urge my colleagues to join me in supporting Governor Kaine's proposal to provide urgent assistance to laid-off Virginia workers."

Deeds is scheduled to vote on the measure during the veto session of the General Assembly on Wednesday.
