Senator Deeds' Statement on the Governor's State of the Commonwealth Address

Senator R. Creigh Deeds released the following statement in reaction to the Governor's State of the Commonwealth address:

"Our nation and our Commonwealth face tremendous economic challenges. I stand ready and able with Governor Tim Kaine to make the difficult choices that will get our economy back on track, create jobs for working families, and keep Virginia the best place to live, work and raise a family.

"The way forward in this economic recovery is to create the good, high-paying jobs of the 21st century that can't be exported overseas. Earlier this week, the Governor and I presented a package of legislation to create new green jobs in Virginia. I will put forth additional economic stimulus proposals designed to grow jobs and reinvigorate our economy. In this difficult economy, we must protect working families by creating the jobs of the 21st century today.

"I applaud Governor Kaine for his fiscally responsible and forward-looking approach to these challenges. Tough economic times require Virginia families to tighten their belts; they should know that state government will do the same. But, we will not stop investing in our future nor will we turn back the clock on the progress we've made in the last few years."
