Van Hollen Statement on President Obama's Nomination of Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court

Today, Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Assistant to the Speaker, issued the following statement on President Obama's announcement to nominate Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court:

"I applaud the President's announcement today to nominate Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. If confirmed, Judge Sotomayor would bring more overall judicial experience to the Court than any Justice in the past 70 years. She is unquestionably qualified, and has a long track record of working to build consensus with her colleagues.

"Both her personal history and legal experience speak to her deep commitment to justice and fairness. She would be an excellent addition to the Court, and I look forward to the Senate's timely confirmation of this talented nominee."
