Van Hollen Votes to Support Small Business and Create Jobs
House Passes Job Creation Through Entrepreneurship Act
Today, Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Assistant to the Speaker, issued the following statement on House passage of the Job Creation Through Entrepreneurship Act:
"Today, the House passed the bipartisan Job Creation Through Entrepreneurship Act, which will build on the tax relief and government loan guarantees the Recovery Act provided small businesses and give them additional tools and resources they need to succeed.
"The legislation expands and creates new entrepreneurial development programs - a prudent investment in these difficult economic times. Last year alone, these programs helped create 73,000 jobs, and it is estimated that for every $1 spent on these programs, there is a $2.87 return to the Treasury.
"We face difficult economic times, but Congress and President Obama are working hard to rebuild our economy. Making sure our small businesses and entrepreneurs - the backbone of our economy - have the chance to thrive is a major part of that effort, as are the recently passed pieces of legislation that provide tough consumer protections."
