MCNERNEY STATEMENT ON EARTH DAY
Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) released the following statement today in recognition of Earth Day.
"Today, we celebrate the 39th anniversary of Earth Day. Since its inception in the 1970s, Earth Day has served as a call to action to preserve and protect America's natural environment. Almost four decades after the creation of Earth Day, our country faces a time of economic turmoil and the growing threat of climate change. Today, we must renew our call to action with a commitment to pass clean energy legislation that will help get our economy back on track and create millions of new jobs.
"For over twenty years, I worked in the renewable energy field. Now, I'm putting my expertise to work fighting for this important energy legislation. This past month, I introduced three new energy bills that will help modernize our electrical grid and create green job training programs in our nation's schools. Over the coming months, I'll keep fighting for clean energy legislation that will help get our economy back on track and create American jobs right here at home.
"Time and time again, Americans have met great challenges with the ingenuity and resourcefulness for which we are known. There is no doubt that today we face both great economic and environmental challenges. On this Earth Day, let us rededicate ourselves to meeting these challenges so that our grandchildren will celebrate this anniversary as a time of great economic and environmental achievements."
