Vital Climate Change and Energy Legislation Includes Matsui's Bill on Smart Planning for Smart Growth
This week, Rep. Doris Matsui will participate in hearings on "The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009," in the Energy and Commerce Committee led by Full Committee Chairman Henry Waxman and Energy and Environment Subcommittee Chairman Edward Markey.
The legislation being discussed includes Rep. Matsui's "Smart Planning for Smart Growth Act of 2009," which aligns infrastructure and land use planning with greenhouse gas reduction goals to preserve resources and fight climate change.
"The legislation we are considering is one of the signature issues of our time and presents us with the opportunity to transition our economy forward with a clean energy focus while reducing pollution and leaving a cleaner planet to the next generation," stated Rep. Matsui. "I am also pleased that this legislation looks at the good work Sacramento and our Blueprint have done in land use planning. The inclusion of my legislation in The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009' will give larger communities, like Sacramento, the incentives they need to grow and develop in a way that is sensitive to global warming. After recently touring a host of local clean energy and green technology businesses who are helping to make Sacramento a model of the new green economy, I look forward to representing Sacramento's views and needs during these important hearings.
