Lummis Statement in Support of State Sovereignty Initiatives

U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., joined members of the Congressional Western Caucus to applaud Texas state legislators and Governor Rick Perry for their efforts to take action against the federal government's unconstitutional encroachment on states' rights.

"Our founding fathers had the foresight to amend our most precious governing document to protect the states from a massive and overbearing federal government," Lummis said. "State governments are the incubators of innovation. My life in public service has solidified my belief that state and local governments have the right answers to the issues facing our nation. I wholeheartedly support efforts currently being taken to reaffirm our states' rights and inject some long overdue common sense back into our federal government."

In response to the federal government's growing trend toward interference in state matters, identical bills were introduced in both houses of the Texas State Legislature to reaffirm the distribution of powers as defined by the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Texas Governor Rick Perry recently endorsed the state legislators' efforts.
