Gillibrand: Terrorism Assessment Should Address Internet Vulnerabilities

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement in response to the State Department's annual Country Report on Terrorism for 2008:

"The report provides further evidence that increased terrorism activity in Pakistan and Afghanistan necessitates the Obama Administration's new focus on our operations there.

"At the same time, we must realize that our military, civilian and financial infrastructure is increasingly dependent on the Internet. In order to stay two steps ahead of the terrorists, we must devote more attention to exploring our technological vulnerabilities and mounting an aggressive defense against cyber attacks and cyber terrorism. Additional reports to Congress should focus on these issues."
