Today, Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Assistant to the Speaker, issued the following statement on President Obama's first 100 days in office:
"With our nation facing unprecedented challenges, President Obama and the 111th Congress have worked together to tackle the pressing issues Americans care about. After only 100 days, the American people are responding to our approach of putting forward responsible yet bold solutions that create jobs, cut taxes, address the financial and housing crisis, and rebuild our economy after eight years of failed policies.
"In these first three months we have laid the foundation for fundamentally changing the direction of our country. The President has signed into law a recovery plan that creates or saves 3.5 million jobs and puts us on a path to prosperity, an extension of health care to 11 million children, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to reduce gender-based pay discrimination, and expanded national volunteer opportunities.
"In the coming weeks the American people deserve to hear solutions to challenges we face on the economy, health care and the climate crisis. We hope the Republicans will work with us to keep the country moving in the right direction."
