REP. CALVERT URGES CALIFORNIA SUPREME COURT TO REAFFIRM THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE, UPHOLD PROPOSITION EIGHT

Today Congressman Ken Calvert (R-CA) issued the following statement regarding the beginning of oral arguments against Prop. 8 in the California Supreme Court:

"I believe that marriage should be defined as the union between one man and one woman and that our public policies should foster strong, traditional families.

"On November 4, 2008, a majority of Californians voted to define marriage as between a man and woman in our state. There is no higher authority in our government than the will of the people. I understand this cause is an emotional one, but emotion should not be used to trample the voice of the majority. I strongly urge the California Supreme Court not undo such a clear statement of public will."
