Veterans Affairs Committee Approves Amended Boozman Bill

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR), the Ranking Republican on the Veterans Affairs Economic Opportunity Subcommittee, today applauded the Veterans Affairs Committee for passing the "Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) Reauthorization Act of 2009" that he introduced in February.

H.R. 1171 reauthorizes the HVRP program for five years through Fiscal Year 2014. HVRP provides grants to homeless veteran providers for job skill training and employment services.

Rep. Steve Buyer (R-IN), the Ranking Member on the Veterans Affairs Committee, amended the legislation to include the language of a Noble Warrior Initiative, H.R. 293, the Homeless Women Veterans and Veterans with Children Reintegration Grant Program. This legislation directs the Secretary of Labor to carry out a grant program to provide reintegration services through programs and facilities that emphasize services for homeless women veterans and homeless veterans with children. Boozman is an original co-sponsor of H.R. 293.

H.R. 1171, as amended, was passed by voice vote, and reported favorably by voice vote to the House.

"We are continuously working to identify areas that we can improve the care and resources our veterans have available to them," Boozman said. "I am committed to ensuring these American heroes have the resources they need to succeed in civilian life."
