WEBB & WARNER ANNOUNCE $27 MILLION TO UPGRADE VIRGINIA'S NATIONAL PARK & HISTORIC SITES

Investments Part of Economic Stimulus Package

U.S. Senators Jim Webb and Mark R. Warner today announced that the National Park Service will invest more than $27 million in 37 Virginia projects to upgrade facilities, extend hiking trails and promote energy efficiency at historic sites. Nationally, the Park Service is investing $750 million in almost 800 projects to stimulate the economy through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

All projects are National Park Service priorities and meet the Recovery Act's goals of generating the largest number of jobs in the shortest period of time while making responsible investments that will create lasting value for the American people.

"The $27 million dedicated to preserve, protect, and provide long-deferred maintenance to Virginia's rich historical and natural sites will help stimulate local economies and invest in the history of our nation," said Senator Webb. "This funding builds on the recently-enacted public lands bill, the most significant conservation legislation passed by Congress in the past 15 years."

"These projects will upgrade and expand the quality of more than three dozen historic sites across Virginia, creating jobs, promoting energy efficiency, and helping to ensure a safe and educational experience for visitors," Senator Warner said.
