Durbin Remarks on Life and Legacy of Chicago's Arturo Velasquez

Assistant Senate Majority Leader Dick Durbin (D-IL) today made a statement on the floor of the United States Senate in honor of the life and legacy of Arturo Velasquez who died Friday at the age of ninety-three. Velasquez was a Mexican immigrant who owned one of Chicago's largest music and game firms and also played a key role in the establishment of several Hispanic business and civic groups.

"Arturo Velasquez was dedicated to his family, his church, his business, and the city of Chicago, especially the Mexican American community on Chicago's South Side," said Durbin. "This past Friday, Mr. Velasquez passed on at the age of 93. But his influence will live on in the people he inspired, the lives he helped change, and the opportunities he helped create for so many."
