Hoeven Statement On The Sentencing Of Roxana Saberi By An Iranian Court

Gov. John Hoeven today issued the following statement in response to an Iranian court's sentencing of North Dakotan Roxana Saberi to eight years in prison for espionage:

"We received news today of Roxana Saberi's harsh sentencing for alleged espionage by an Iranian court with a sense of deep concern.

"I know all North Dakotans and all Americans are united in calling on Iranian authorities to direct her immediate and unconditional release on appeal. We at the state level will do all we can to provide support for her and her family, and we call on the President and the Department of State to use all and any reasonable influence within their authority to help free Roxana Saberi."
