Senators Snowe and Collins Express Support for Hinckley Company Workers

U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins (R-Maine) released the following joint statement in response to the announcement by the Hinckley Company that it will begin to take steps to close its Trenton Manufacturing Facility. On April 27, 2009, 26 workers will be laid off. The remaining workers at the facility will face potential staggered layoffs as the company moves to cease production operations at the facility.

"As Mainers continue to struggle to stay afloat during these troubling economic times, the hardworking families of the Trenton area have been dealt a devastating blow with Hinckley Company's recent announcement that it will begin the process of closing of its production facility. The Hinckley Company has been a cornerstone in Maine's shipbuilding industry, and we were deeply saddened to learn the facility anticipates its doors will permanently be shuttered.

"As the community continues to cope with these job losses and the potential closing of this vital facility, we stand ready to assist the workers who will loose their job through no fault of their own. We will ensure these families have access to the federal assistance and community resources they need to help them through their employment transition."
