Senator Murray Announces Nearly $50 million in Washington State Homeland Security Recovery Funding

Funding will help secure Northern border, Coast Guard facilities, and Spokane International Airport

Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that an estimated $47,748,337 has been made available in Washington state for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the Transportation Security Administration. This funding was included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).

"Investing in security for Washington state is absolutely critical as we work toward economic recovery," said Senator Patty Murray. "This funding will provide a boost to our economy while ensuring that our state remains secure by giving agencies the technology and training to help prevent possible attacks."

As a senior member of the Senate Homeland Security Subcommittee, Sen. Murray worked to ensure that investments in our nation's security were included in the Recovery Act. Senator Murray voted to pass the Recovery Act on February 13th. The bill was signed into law by President Obama on February 17th.
