Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Cuellar & Joint Chiefs Of Staff Chairman Admiral Mullen Visit With Wounded Warriors And Families At New Support Center

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, today joined Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in visiting with wounded warriors and their families at the Warrior and Family Support Center (WFSC) at Fort Sam Houston. In December 2008, the WFSC was moved to a new facility to accommodate a growing number of wounded warriors and their family members. Prior to the move, the WFSC had accommodated more than 180,000 visits from wounded warriors and their families from its original location on the 2nd floor of the Powless Hall Guest House. Since opening in December 2008, the new WFSC has accommodated more than 285,000 visits by wounded service members and family members.

"I am always humbled and honored to meet with our wounded warriors and their family members - some of the nation's bravest and most selfless individuals. The Warrior Family Support Center here at Fort Sam Houston is a first-rate facility offering substantial amenities and supportive services to wounded warriors and their families as they transition out of hospital care. These men and women deserve nothing less than the best in care, and having witnessed firsthand the services offered at the WFSC today, I can confirm they are receiving just that. I want to thank Admiral Mullen for visiting Fort Sam Houston, one of Texas'—and the nation's—most integral military installations. His visit is sure to be a morale boost for our heroes who are recovering here and the excellent staff that is helping them make a full recovery," Sen. Cornyn said.

On September 15, 2007, Sen. Cornyn attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Warrior and Family Support Center at Fort Sam Houston.
