Smith Comments on President Obama's Congressional Address

Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE) released the following statement regarding President Barack Obama's address this evening to a joint session of Congress:

"I appreciate President Obama's efforts to reach across party lines and address the American people. Our economy is facing tremendous challenges - on this issue, I agree with him.

"My concern is the speech was short on details. What the American people want are concrete steps to pull the economy out of this slump. People are concerned about the levels of governmental spending with little or no oversight, and Congress has done little to change this. One of the keys to our recovery is a return to governmental fiscal responsibility - something I have called for my entire career. More spending, however, will only serve to weigh our economy down."
