McCollum Calls President Obama's Address to Congress a Call for "Bold, Responsible and Decisive Action"

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) released the following statement in response to President Barack Obama's first Joint Session address to Congress:

"President Obama's speech tonight was a call for bold, responsible, and decisive action. He knows how badly American families and businesses are hurting and how real the pain of this economic crisis is for the American people. President Obama correctly pointed out that we will rebuild and recover, and our nation will emerge stronger than before.

"I applaud the President for his commitment to put fiscal discipline and responsibility at the forefront of his agenda and taking such bold action in his first month in office. I commend the President for working with Congress and reaching out to Democrats and Republicans to pass the economic recovery bill that will create and save more than 3 million jobs. The President's focus on reform and a new direction in energy, healthcare and education policy is right on target. As a member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, I am committed to do my part to help move comprehensive reforms for healthcare and education forward.

"Tonight's speech put the nation on notice that we have a lot of work to do and that it will take time, but everyone must contribute to the success of our country. President Obama not only sounded the right tone, he inspired Americans to stand together and work for the good of all our citizens."
