Representative Heinrich Statement on Announced AIG Bonuses
U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-1), today issued the following statement on the news report that the American International Group (AIG), which has received more than $170 billion in taxpayer bailout money from the Treasury and Federal Reserve, will give out more than $165 million in bonuses to its executives:
"I am outraged to learn that AIG would go forward with such extravagant bonuses for its executives at taxpayer expense. I urge the AIG executives to reject these bonuses, and I will work with my colleagues, and the Congressional Leadership, to pursue any available legal options to recover taxpayer funds from companies that abuse taxpayer assistance in this manner."
