Rep. Martin Heinrich's Statement Regarding Increase in Unemployment Rate

U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (D-NM) released the following statement regarding the rise in the overall unemployment to 8.5 percent, the highest in 25 years:

"Today we learned that 663,000 Americans lost jobs in March. These aren't numbers; these are family members, friends and neighbors. New Mexicans are struggling to put food on the table, stay in their homes and pay their medical bills. That is why the Congress and the Obama Administration are taking aggressive steps to combat these troubling affects of the recession on New Mexico's families by reining in the cost of health care, creating clean energy jobs and promoting energy independence, and providing each student with a complete and competitive education that will indeed strengthen our economy."
