Sen. Cornyn Commends Army For Bringing More Than 600 New Army Personnel To Fort Hood

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today released the following statement regarding the Army's announcement that it will relocate a number of units to Fort Hood in Killeen, including a total of 535 soldiers and 66 Army civilian employees.

"The Army's announcement that it is bringing new units with more than 600 new Army personnel to Fort Hood is welcome news. They recognize, like I do, that the Fort Hood installation and surrounding communities are great places to work and live, making it an outstanding choice for locating new soldiers and civilian employees. I applaud the Army on this wise decision, and I look forward to welcoming these additional soldiers and Army civilian employees to Texas. Fort Hood remains one of the finest military installations in the world, and I believe it still has room to grow.

"I believe the U.S. Army has room to grow as well and - in light of the dangerous world in which we live - good reason to do so. To that end, this week the Senate passed an amendment that I co-sponsored, which would grow the Army's ranks by an additional 30,000 soldiers in order to alleviate the burden on our existing active duty force. By expanding the size of our Army, we will also enable it to better meet the substantial demands placed on it. Fort Hood is well-suited for taking on additional soldiers and their families, and I believe it should be considered as a location for some of the soldiers that would be added through my legislation."
