Greening Federal Buildings in Virginia

The U.S. General Services Administration released more than $66.3 million today to renovate and modernize five of Virginia's federal building as part of the economic recovery package.

The funds will be used to make the buildings more energy efficient, Senator Warner said:

"These projects were selected because they promote energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and create construction and renovation jobs relatively quickly. More importantly, these projects support the expansion of Virginia's ‘green building' industry, and that's important for our state's longer-term economic vitality."

The GSA's Public Buildings Service selected the projects based on two overarchinve criteria: the ability of the project to put people back to work quickly, and transforming federal buildings into high-performance green buildings.
