Durbin Says Change Is Essential for Auto Industry's Survival

Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says the removal of GM's CEO is a signal that change is needed for the auto industry to survive. Rick Wagoner stepped down over the weekend after pressure from the Obama administration. Durbin says the government wants the domestic auto industry to work.

DURBIN: There going to be asking for sacrifices -- our government will-- from the workers, the executives, the suppliers -- across the board if the auto industry is going to survive. And Mr. Wagoner's departure is an indication of how serious this is.

Both General Motors and Chrysler have sought government money. In the past, Durbin has said it's important that the federal government help the auto industry, but he has says taxpayers' dollars can't continue to support failing corporations.
