Mike Quigley statement on removal of Gov. Rod Blagojevich:

"Today is a sad occasion for the state of Illinois. Rod Blagojevich betrayed the trust of the people of our state and sought to put his own selfish interests above those of the people of Illinois.

"I applaud the state Senate for voting to remove him from office. I look forward to working with new governor, Pat Quinn, to fight for reform and to give the people of Illinois what they deserve: an honest government that puts their needs above those of the politicians."

"Today should also serve to renew our commitment, regardless of party, to fight for honest government, to thoroughly reform our political institutions and to end—once and for all—the type of corrupt and cynical politics that Rod Blagojevich's abhorrent behavior represents."

"Only by committing ourselves to real reform and to fundamental change can we turn the page on this ugly chapter in Illinois' history."
