QUIGLEY PICKS UP TRIBUNE ENDORSEMENT

Quigley sweeps endorsements from both major dailies

Quigley called "honest, effective, reform-minded leader"; "forceful critic" of Todd Stroger

Commissioner Mike Quigley, a leading voice for reform of Cook County government for more than ten years, today picked up the endorsement of the Chicago Tribune, giving him a sweep of the city's two major daily newspapers.

In an editorial posted on the newspaper's website late this afternoon, the Tribune said Quigley has "an outstanding record of independent, reform-minded performance in office." The Tribune added that Quigley has been a "forceful, persistent critic of Cook County Board President Todd Stroger."

With the Tribune's endorsement, Quigley has now earned the endorsements of the city's two major daily newspapers—a significant accomplishment in any election, and in particular given the crowded 12-person field in this race.

On Sunday, the Chicago Sun-Times endorsed Quigley, as well. Like the Tribune, the Sun-Times stressed Quigley's record of reform on the Cook County board, calling him the "rare candidate who promises reform—and delivers."

"He is the real deal," the Sun-Times added.

In addition to gaining the two newspaper endorsements, Quigley has been the leader in the two polls released to date in the race.

In its endorsement, the Tribune calls Quigley "an honest, effective, reform-minded leader." It added that he has "an outstanding record on human rights, health care and the environment" and said that his multiple reports on how to improve county government are "without parallel in Illinois politics."
