Aderholt Demands CBS Take Action After Offensive Super Bowl Show

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) this week sent a letter to CBS Television Network Chairman, Leslie Moonves, urging him to take action responding to last week's offensive Super Bowl half-time show. Congressman Aderholt also joined his colleagues in thanking Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael Powell for his quick start in investigating this matter.

"Not just as a Member of Congress, but as a community member, this is an opportunity to uphold the standards of common decency," said Congressman Aderholt, who said he had heard many in Alabama express concern over the issue.
The letter, signed by Congressman Aderholt and other Members of Congress, says, "We find it unthinkable that CBS and MTV failed to take into consideration the large numbers of children in the Super Bowl viewing audience as well as the fact that most citizens do not expect nor welcome such objectionable material in their homes.

"Given the circumstances involved in the incident, and a statement issued by MTV promising 'shocking moments' and a performance the Super Bowl has never seen, we find it difficult to believe that this episode was unplanned. Furthermore, even if the incident was unintended, CBS remains ultimately at fault for failing to utilize a seven-second-delay window intended to prevent such lewd material from reaching the airwaves."

In the letter written to Chairman Powell, Congressman Aderholt and others, commended him for his strong statements opposing the controversial show, and urged him to conduct a thorough investigation imposing severe penalties on the parties responsible for this incident.
