Rep. Courtney Joins ‘New Democrat Coalition' at Meeting with President Obama to Discuss Critical Issues Facing the Nation

Today at the White House, Congressman Joe Courtney and other members of the New Democrat Coalition met with President Obama to discuss critical issues facing our nation. The New Democrat Coalition is a group of like-minded moderate Democrats who have joined to seek solutions on issues such as the economic crisis, healthcare, and energy and technology innovation.

"I appreciate President Obama's invitation to join him at the White House to discuss the issues of importance to the New Democrat Coalition and to my constituents in eastern Connecticut," stated Courtney. "The challenges inherited by this Congress and the White House are numerous, including the economic crisis, a broken healthcare system, an archaic energy policy, and a failing education system. I am proud to work with the NDC and President Obama to begin finding real solutions to the problems we are facing and put our country back on track."

Congressman Courtney has supported the problem-solving approach of the New Democrat Coalition on economic growth, health care reform, and alternative energy.

Congressman Courtney has been a vocal leader on developing a new innovation agenda, which is one area that has been embraced by the NDC.

"From greater investment and emphasis on higher education, alternative energy, green schools, Research & Development funding, science and NIH research, Health IT, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education, the New Dem agenda supports the future looking, pro-growth focus of my region," added Courtney.
