REP. MARKEY BLASTS REPUBLICAN HOMELAND SECURITY BUDGET CUTS

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Edward Markey, a senior member of the House Select Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement on the cut in the Homeland Security Budget by the House Budget Committee by $155 million today:

"Today Republicans in Congress demonstrated that their tax cuts are not only jeopardizing our Social Security and Medicare trust funds, but these tax cuts are also undermining our homeland security. Republicans appear willing to sacrifice any program in pursuit of permanent tax cuts for the wealthiest two percent. The war against terrorism continues, but the Republican nickel and diming of the homeland security budget will stall efforts to provide real hometown security."
