Sen. Cornyn Meets With El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

U.S. Senator John Cornyn, R-Texas, hosted a meeting this week in his Washington office with leaders of the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (EPHCC). Sen. Cornyn met with Ana Gonzalez of the EPHCC, Jesus Rico, EPHCC Vice-Chair for Business Advocacy & Research and President of ESEI, as well as Chamber members Duane Coleman and Von Washington.

"I had a very productive meeting with leaders and members from the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. We discussed the effect of the economic downturn on business development in the region, especially the impact on small businesses. Our meeting gave us the opportunity to discuss Mexico's challenges and how they affect Hispanic business owners in the region. EPHCC members are rightly concerned that so-called "Card Check" legislation being debated in Washington would revoke an employee's right to a secret ballot vote concerning labor union organization. The meeting gave me a chance to reiterate my support for workers' secret ballot rights and other pro-growth initiatives that will help local businesses develop and prosper, without raising taxes. I welcomed the opportunity to hear from these dedicated leaders who are working hard to expand business opportunities for the Hispanic community in El Paso."
