REP. MARKEY CALLS FOR SECRETARY RUMSFELD TO BE DISMISSED

"President Bush told the world that the torture chambers and rape rooms of Iraq had been shut down, not that they had been put under new management. It's appalling that this was allowed to happen, and I don't think that merely court marshalling a few privates is sufficient to show we take it seriously.
"President Bush was right to apologize to the Iraqi people today for the despicable mistreatment and humiliation of Iraqi prisoners at the Abu Gharib prison. What's needed, however, is accountability, not mere apologies.
"President Bush should immediately dismiss Secretary Rumsfeld, who must be held accountable for this incredible breakdown of discipline."
