New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand made the following statement on the Obama Administration's decision to withdraw from the World Conference Against Racism, known as Durban II. This week Senator Gillibrand and Senator Charles E. Schumer sent a letter to UN Ambassador Susan Rice registering their concern about anti-Semitism at the conference (see attached).
"I am pleased by the administration's decision today to withdraw the American delegation from the Durban II conference. It became clear through the preliminary negotiations that the focus of the conference will not change and the goals would not be met.
"The United States has a responsibility to confront anti-Semitism and to speak out against it."
