Senator Gillibrand Statement on the Passing of Bill Tatum

New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand issued the following statement on the passing of Bill Tatum, Publisher Emeritus of the Amsterdam News and former Deputy Borough President of Manhattan:

"I was saddened to learn that Bill Tatum passed away yesterday. Mr. Tatum's commitment to family, love of community, and dedication to his journalistic ideals helped to ensure that the Amsterdam News continued its legacy as New York City's oldest African American newspaper.

"An icon and true leader in the Harlem community and throughout New York, Mr. Tatum's courage and resolve left an indelible mark on the civil rights movement and indeed the world of journalism. His legacy will be treasured and carried on by his daughter Elinor. My thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family and all those who knew him well."
