Sen. Bennet's Statement on President Obama's Iraq Plan

United States Senator Michael Bennet released the following statement in response to President Obama's announcement of a plan to draw down American forces in Iraq, bringing combat brigades home by August 31, 2010, with training and advisory forces remaining through the end of 2011:

"President Obama and his national security team have laid out a balanced plan to reduce our military presence in Iraq and pave the way for the Iraqi people to take responsibility for their own future."

"We need to bring a responsible end to the war in Iraq, and doing so means not only bringing our troops home, but also maintaining the forces necessary to ensure our hard-fought security gains are not reversed. I believe the President's plan strikes the right balance for achieving these goals."
