Sen. Cornyn Statement On President Obama's Budget Proposal

"It's just more of the same old tax and spend"

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, a member of the Senate Budget Committee, released the following statement Thursday regarding the budget proposal submitted to Congress by President Obama.

"The budget plan President Obama submitted today is extremely disappointing. It's just more of the same old tax and spend. Imposing a $1.4 trillion tax increase on hard-working Americans and small businesses - the very people who will create the jobs that will help turn our economy around - is not the type of stimulus the American people need in tough economic times.

"Additionally, the deficit under President Obama's budget explodes to a mind boggling $1.75 trillion, doesn't eliminate a single program and instead proposes to increase discretionary spending by almost 7 percent to $1.13 trillion, at a time when working families and small businesses are tightening their belts.

"It also completely ignores the real crisis facing our country's economic stability - our entitlement programs and their unfunded liabilities - to the tune of $67 trillion and growing.

"Despite all this, I am committed to working with President Obama and the Democrat majority as the budget and appropriations process moves forward."
