Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) today thanked and praised Major General Antonio Taguba for authoring the report of devastating abuse at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

"I want to thank General Taguba for his courageous and noble actions in Iraq. His report on the abuse by U.S. military and civilian interrogators at Abu Ghraib prison was both forthright and brave.

"This report has opened the nation's eyes to the abuses at Abu Ghraib and will go a long way in ensuring that these appalling acts never happen again.

"At this difficult time for our military and its leaders, it is important to highlight the efforts of individuals like General Taguba who epitomize the bravery, nobility, and dedicated service of America's armed forces-including the majority of our troops in Iraq.

"As one of the highest-ranking Filipino Americans in the U.S. military, Taguba has also helped pave the way for other Asian Pacific Americans.

"We owe General Taguba a special debt of gratitude for demonstrating the ideals of this great nation and those who defend her."

Larsen serves on the U.S. House Armed Services Committee.
