U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today issued the following statement regarding outgoing President George W. Bush:
"As President Bush makes his final departure from the White House, I want to thank him for his leadership and as he said in his farewell address--his willingness to make the tough decisions.
"In the days following September 11th, the nation witnessed the best of President Bush--his humanity and compassion, and his strength and resolve under pressure. He promised a hurting nation he would do everything in his power to prevent another terrorist attack. Today, more than 7 years later, he has fulfilled that promise and our country has been kept safe.
"I believe history will tell of a principled leader whose strong faith in God, family, and the power of freedom guided his time in office. President Bush is a man of character who possesses a deep love for his country.
"My family and I extend a warm welcome to the President and Laura as they return home to Texas."
